Community Outreach & Education Programs
The Pinecroft Sedgefield Fire District is committed to providing the community with life safety education by teaching prevention in order to reduce life and property loss in the community. Our Fire and Life Safety Education Team is available to make presentations to schools, organizations or businesses.
Programs provided include:
Preschool Program – The Preschool Program is designed to introduce the firefighter as a friend. They learn about the equipment a firefighter must wear to protect them in a fire, and to not be afraid of the firefighter. They learn and practice staying low in smoke when a smoke alarm is sounding. Stop, drop and roll. We also teach them how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
Fire Extinguisher Training - The use of a fire extinguisher in the hands of a trained adult can be a life and property saving tool. However, a majority of adults have not had fire extinguisher training and may not know how and when to use them. Fire extinguisher use requires a sound decision and training process that will help ensure that you have the confidence and skills necessary to take action should a fire occur.
School Program - Each class is designed to meet the educational, physical ability and reasoning skills of the students. These programs are also appropriate for scout groups or after school programs. Safety topics that are covered include fire safety, water safety, injury prevention, weather, firearms, kitchen safety and first aid. Special equipment used during our school programs include: our Fire Safety House, The Enlarging Machine, and Patches and Pumper (our Robot Fire Dog and Fire Truck).
Remembering When - for our Older Adult Population - As we get older, we become more vulnerable to falls and fire. Pinecroft Sedgefield Fire District has put together a program to address the needs of this generation. We offer presentations that cover slip and fall prevention, cooking safety, smoke alarm maintenance and escape plans.
Adult Programs - The adult program is designed for the homeowner as well as those who live in apartments, townhouses or condos. Topics that are covered include causes of most residential fires, prevention measures, placement of smoke alarms and fire extinguishers. We also discuss drawing and practicing an evacuation plan for the residence.
Businesses - Many of the nation's annual 5,000 business fires could be prevented if companies and employees followed basic on-the-job safety practices. Topics that are covered include keeping exits and stairways clear, evacuation plans and fire extinguisher training.
Health and Safety Fairs – Pinecroft Sedgefield Fire District is available to participate in health and safety fairs to address a variety of topics including fire safety, water safety, disaster preparedness and child safety.
Blood Pressure Checks – Pinecroft Sedgefield Fire District personnel are available seven days a week to take blood pressure readings for free. Residents can stop by any of the stations listed below from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents should ring the doorbell or knock on the door located near the main entrance. No appointment is necessary. There will be times when the firefighters will be out of the station. If the crew is away from the station, check back at a later time or try another station.
