Volunteer & Resident
As a combination fire department, Pinecroft Sedgefield has a variety of opportunities for people to volunteer. PSFD partners with Guilford Technical Community College – Jamestown Campus (GTCC) for members to obtain the required NC Firefighting Certifications. GTCC offers both nighttime and daytime fire academy options.
Volunteer Firefighters
Are you at least 18 years old and live within the Pinecroft Sedgefield Fire District? If so, you are eligible to be a volunteer member. PSFD welcomes volunteer interest year-round. Volunteers can be both interior (firefighter certified) and non-interior (non-certified “support”) members.
Resident Firefighters
Our resident firefighter program provides an opportunity for firefighters to live in one of our fire stations at no cost, and in return, the firefighters pull duty to build experience and assist with departmental staffing needs. Residents should have completed classes for 1403 Live Fire including Fire Control unless an exception is made by the Fire Chief. Medical responder or EMT is beneficial but not required.
PSFD also utilizes this program in partnership with the GTCC Fire Academy, for cadets traveling from out of town to attend the academy.
Type of Residents:
Full time Resident - These residents live at the fire station full time and have their own assigned bedroom. Residents are required to pull a minimum of 40 hrs./week at the fire station. Residents are required to help staff stations on days when career staffing is short due to sickness, classes, or any other occasion when manning is impacted.
Shift Resident - This resident type is assigned to a specific shift (A, B or C). It is the resident's responsibility to be at the fire station on his/her assigned shift. Resident shifts are from 1800-0700 on those assigned days.
